In line with the Butig Rehabilitation Program funded under the FY 2020 Special Development Fund (SDF), the Ministry of Public Order and Safety (MPOS) holds the community-driven safety and security training from September 15-17, 2023, at C Resort, Libertad, Misamis Oriental.

The three-day activity aims to (a) capacitate the participants on the importance and principles of peace, order, and safety, (b) inculcate to the participants their important roles in promoting and strengthening peace, order, and security in their community as members of the community, (c) strengthen the advocacy of peace and in building a culture of peace, and (d) craft a community-driven safety and security document for the municipality of Butig: a reference of recommendation in addressing peace and security issues in Butig.

Atty. Al-Rashid L. Balt, Director-General of MPOS BARMM, stressed the importance of peace and security to develop and rehabilitate conflict-affected areas.

“Hindi marerealize ang magagandang plano for the past years kung hindi maeestablish ang kaligtasan sa mga municipality,” he said.

The Butig Rehabilitation Program seeks to uplift the condition of Butig as one of the most conflict-affected communities in the Bangsamoro.

Peace and security are essential factors in pursuing economic growth. These will pave the way for the implementation of development activities, which have the potential to bring about more and better chances for the Bangsamoro.

Present in the activity are Lo Ivan R. Reyes, Planning Officer IV of OCM-TMS, Sittie Janine M. Gamao, Peace Program Officer V and Abdul Majid P. Nagamura, Community Affairs Officer III of MPOS-BARMM, PSS Alberto D. Gapoy, PCADU of LDS Provincial Office, LTC Jo Anthony Leb C. Lalas, GSC (INF) PA Executive Officer of 103rd Bde, 1ID, PA, representatives from municipal and barangay local government units, law enforcement agencies of the Butig-Philippine National Police (PNP) and 103rd Brigade of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), and SDF-PMO.

Section 2, Article XIV of RA 11054 of the Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL), mandates the national government to allocate a Special Development Fund (SDF) to the Bangsamoro Government for rebuilding, rehabilitation, and development of conflict-affected areas.
